Imphal, November 27 (Wayel Kati): The United People’s Front (UPF) and Kuki National Organisation (KNO), the two apex bodies of Kuki armed groups under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement, have strongly refuted reports claiming that Kuki-Zo MLAs are preparing to join a new popular government once President’s Rule is lifted in Manipur.
In a joint statement, the organisations clarified that
no resolution was ever taken regarding the participation of Kuki-Zo MLAs in any new government formation. They stated that misleading news reports have distorted the actual proceedings of the November 15 general conference organised by the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC).
According to the statement, the meeting extensively deliberated on the long-standing demand for a
separate administration—a Union Territory with its own legislature. However,
there was no discussion or decision by the MLAs on joining any upcoming government.
The UPF and KNO emphasised that Kuki-Zo MLAs will
not take part in a popular government
until the demand for a separate administration is fulfilled. They reiterated that this position will remain unchanged in the future unless the aspirations of the Kuki-Zo people, as represented by the KZC, are met.
The groups condemned media reports suggesting otherwise, calling them “baseless” and a “misinterpretation” of the community’s stance. They asserted that the Kuki-Zo leadership has not deviated from its long-held political demands.
Meanwhile, Saitu AC MLA Haokholet Kipgen and Singhat AC MLA Chinlunthang also issued separate clarifications, dismissing the news reports as unfounded. They stated that the Guwahati meeting convened by the KZC did
not discuss the formation of any popular government, and that the Kuki-Zo MLAs
did not participate in such discussions.
They reiterated that the core agenda of the meeting was solely the issue of
separate administration.
