Imphal, Feb 17 (Wayel Kati): The
National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) [NSCN (IM)] has accused the Central Government of deliberately fuelling tensions in Manipur and neighbouring regions, alleging that the ongoing Meitei–Kuki conflict forms part of a broader geopolitical plan.
In a press release issued by its External Publicity Wing, the outfit claimed that the violence between communities, the construction of the so-called German/Tiger Road, and the burning of Naga houses in
Ukhrul are connected to attempts to carve out a separate Kuki homeland.
The group alleged that the situation unfolding in
Manipur and
Nagaland reflects what it described as
India’s geopolitical ambitions. According to the release, Kukis are being used “as a tool” while the government projects itself internationally as protecting them under the Suspension of Operations agreement.
The statement further claimed that the alleged strategy is linked to India’s effort to assert military influence in the Indo-Pacific region. It also accused the
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its institutions of instigating policies aimed at advancing this objective.
NSCN (IM) asserted that attempts are being made to divide Naga communities and weaken the idea of Nagalim through what it termed a proxy conflict involving Kuki groups. It also alleged that armed formations of People Defence Force (PDF) operating in
Myanmar, were being encouraged to expand areas claimed for a proposed Kuki homeland.
The release additionally referred to historical migration patterns, claiming that Kukis were brought by the British from the
Chin Hills to serve as a buffer against Naga communities, and alleged that present developments are disrupting the Indo-Naga peace process.
It also mentioned past political engagements, stating that NSCN (IM) leader Thuingaleng Muivah and Indian leaders including P. V. Narasimha Rao, H. D. Deve Gowda, Manmohan Singh, Narendra Modi, and the late Rajesh Pilot had been associated with earlier framework agreements and communiqués relating to the Naga political issue, the press release added.
